India has world’s second largest road network. Road transportation is a critical component that fuel a country’s economy. I am glad to say that we are at that juncture where we have the ability and resources to build and deliver an efficient, sustainable, and safe infrastructure.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is committed to redouble its efforts in pursuing excellence and maximizing the potential of the transportation system. While we have made remarkable progress in improving road safety, there are hurdles that still need to be overcome. It is therefore crucial that we continue to highlight the importance of prioritizing road safety programmes such as awareness campaigns, infrastructural upgrades, stronger law enforcement and relief and compensation mechanism for victims to hit-and-run accidents to support the victims and their families.
I congratulate the New Media Communication, publishers of the ‘Maharashtra MILESTONE’ magazine on their Eighth Anniversary, and wish them all success in creating awareness on the transport systems and technologies and road safety.
